Being a Brownie is an adventurous journey girls go on with friends to discover the world around them.
Brownie units bring girls together to help them discover new hobbies, get creative, explore other cultures and have outdoor adventures. Girls meet regularly to work on badges, learn new skills, play games and see their friends – and there are also opportunities to go along to special events, like sleepovers and camps.
During meetings girls will try new things – they can work in groups on skills builder activities and unit meeting activities (UMAs).
They can work towards interest badges in their own time, choosing topics and skills they’re interested in, exploring everything from languages to space.
Brownies can feel proud of their achievements by earning awards for each theme, and even work towards the Brownie Gold award – the highest award a Brownie can get!

The first step is registering your daughter or young person and a local unit will get in touch about availability in your area.
Girls can choose to wear Girlguiding uniform to meetings however no girl is excluded because she does not have the right clothing. In some areas, you can borrow or buy second-hand uniforms. Ask the unit leader for details.
You may also want to think about getting a badge book. These are essential for girls to find out about all the badges and awards they can earn in their section. They are the only place they can see the interest badge challenges, guidance on how to complete them and important safety information they should consider when tackling them at home.
We work to make guiding affordable for all girls and there’s help at hand if you can’t meet the costs. We don’t want girls to miss out on guiding for any reason. If you’re concerned about any costs preventing your daughter from taking part, please speak to the unit leader. They can tell you about ways we can help, including our grants.
Could you give your time to make an impact on the lives of girls and young women in Scotland?
