The role

The role of Council is to provide a forum for its members from all countries and regions to engage with Girlguiding at a national level. Our Council meets once a year for an annual general meeting (AGM) – usually June. Here members have the chance to review and discuss the annual report of the board of trustees , and our annual financial accounts. We also sometimes ask members to meet and give their opinions on other important issues that come up throughout the year.

This role is open to current members of Girlguiding 14+

The key skills and attributes that we’re looking for are:

• Able to show their understanding of how Girlguiding is relevant to the lives of girls and young women today
• Able to lead discussions and report accurately on Council discussions
• Interested in, and enthusiastic for, shaping and advising on Girlguiding’s future
• Able (or ready to learn) to use and contribute using modern communication tools like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, SurveyMonkey and blogging
• Committed to everyone being welcome and free to be themselves in Girlguiding, in line with our Strategic Plan for Diversity and Inclusion

How to apply

1. Read the full application pack
2. Fill in the application form and send it to governance@girlguiding.org.uk
3. Ask for 2 nominations for the role from commissioners or Council members from Scotland. If you’re under 18 you can ask your unit leader to nominate you. You could also ask their advice on who else to approach for a nomination.
4. Complete the first part of the nomination form. Send it with a copy of the application pack to the 2 people nominating you. Ask them to fill in the nomination form and send it to governance@girlguiding.org.uk by the closing date.

The closing date is 11.59pm on Wednesday 2 April 2025.
