To mark The King’s coronation on 8 May 2023, community organisations around the country are taking part in The Big Help Out.
Take a look at this blog from Girlguding’s specialist volunteer for member recruitment for a list of suggested activities and we’ve put together some resources to help you take part.
Use handy resources for running events in your area
This is a great opportunity to get out and be visible in your community. There are posters, graphics and suggested text for newsletters available in the ‘spread the word’ section of The Big Help Out website.
We’ve also made a template invitation and template thank you letter for you to download, and you may find our recruitment resources useful.

Share what you’re doing on social media
We’d love to see what you and your unit get up to! You can share photos with us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter @GirlguidingScot. If you use #TheBigHelpOut in your posts, you’ll reach a larger audience and will be able to see other things happening across the country as part of the event. Always make sure you have photo permission for anyone in your pictures or videos. Feel free to use these Girlguiding Scotland images below on your social media channels to share that you’re taking part.

Tell the press what you’re doing
Many people will be looking out to see what’s happening to celebrate The King’s Coronation in their area so this is your chance to share even further what you’re up to. You could let your local newspaper or radio station know that you’re taking part and use this to build awareness of Girlguiding in your area. You can use this template press release and edit it to add in relevant information for your local events.
If you’d like additional support with how to work with local media, you can contact our PR and policy officer Philippa who will be happy to help –
philippa@girlguiding-scot.org.uk.

Reach out to your county Public Relations Adviser (PRA)
Some counties have a PRA who is on hand to help you make the most of opportunities like these. Contact your commissioner for more information on what support might be available in your area.
