Guides and Rangers from Angus ventured down to the historic city of Stirling for an action-packed 2-day residential.
Girls from 1st Arbroath Guide unit were joined by 1st Arbroath Rangers on the trip, which included playing board games such as Uno and Dobble at Stirling Guide Hall. The girls also took a train to Glasgow where they played ten pin bowling and completed a wide game. On the final day of the excursion, the girls all made their promise following a tour of Stirling Castle.
The trip was made possible by The Good Guiding Fund which awarded each unit £500 toward the cost of travel and activities.
Speaking about the trip, unit leader Jennifer Tonks said: “Many of the girls are from low-income families and we are aware that parents have lots of financial pressures. We made a point of advertising this event early saying this was to be fully funded and every girl signed up. We ran this residential with 1st Arbroath Rangers so the Guides also got to know the Rangers, encouraging them to think about staying in Girlguiding and moving up when the time comes.”
The Good Guiding Fund is available to units, districts and divisions across Scotland and supports good quality local guiding. This can mean providing funding for rent and subscriptions to uniform and resources or trips in Scotland or beyond. The fund will open twice per year over the next 3 years, supported by The Gannochy Trust.
Since the Good Guiding Fund was created in 2021, more than £360,000 of funding has been awarded to units, districts, divisions and counties. To find out more about how your unit can benefit from the Good Guiding Fund, visit the grants, funding and projects page of the Girlguiding Scotland website.
