We’ve created some useful resources and included some helpful links to help young women in your unit get involved and take part in democracy.
Do you know your MP from your MSP? What about your local councillor? If you’re concerned about an issue at an international, national or local level then get in touch with your elected representatives to see how they can help you bring about change.
Not the only one concerned about an issue? Why not start a petition calling for the change? This is a great way to raise awareness of an issue and help to achieve a positive outcome. Check out this video from the Scottish Parliament which explains how you can petition the Scottish Parliament, including the issues you can raise and how the process works.
Often, Scottish Parliament Committees and the Scottish Government put out a call for views from the public on a range of issues. This could be about changes to a particular law, policy or practice. Find and take part in consultations that interest or impact you by visiting the Scottish Government Consultation Hub and check out the Scottish Parliament Calls for Views.
There are so many opportunities you can get involved with. You could become an MSYP, a Speak Out champion or join Girlguiding’s Advocate programme.
