Girlguiding Scotland Outdoor First Aid Course

7pm – 9.30pm, Thursday, 7 November via Zoom & 9.30am, Saturday, 9 November – 3pm, Sunday 10 November 2024 South Newton Campsite, Kilmacolm, PA13 4TE

When: 7pm to 9.30pm, Thursday 7th November 2024 via Zoom. Then in-person from 9.30am on Saturday 9th November to 3pm, Sunday 10th November 2024 at the venue below. All elements of the course must be attended.

Cost: £20 for Girlguiding Scotland members and £95 for non-Girlguiding Scotland members. The cost includes all meals and accommodation. It does not include any travel, see below.

Who is it for?

This course is open to all members of Girlguiding Scotland aged 18+.

  • This course fulfils the first aid requirements of the Girlguiding Walking Scheme Levels 2 and 3, and the Mountain Training qualifications used for Girlguiding purposes. It is open to all members of Girlguiding Scotland aged 18+ who need to:
    • Renew their 16 hour First Aid qualification to validate their walking qualification
    • Gain a new 16 hour First Aid certificate to support their walking qualification

What will the weekend involve?

The course will use blended learning and will follow all guidelines in place at the time of the course. The content will be intense, and the full 16-hour contact time is required. Part of the course will be delivered outdoors. Teaching times will be Thursday evening 7pm to 9.30pm (on Zoom), then the course will continue throughout Saturday and into Sunday. You may arrive at the venue on Friday evening or Saturday morning. For those arriving on the Saturday morning it is imperative to arrive between 9 and 9.30am. Training will commence no later than 10am on the Saturday morning. The course will continue through into the Saturday evening. On Sunday, the aim is to conclude by 3pm. Breaks for meals will be taken.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in bunks; no bedding or linen is provided. You will need to bring bottom sheet, sleeping bag or quilt, pillow, towels and slippers. No outdoor shoes are allowed inside. If you are travelling some distance, you can arrange to arrive on the Friday evening, please indicate this when booking.

Please note, you must be willing to follow any Covid-19 measurements put in place to protect all attending the event.

Additional info

Once you have booked your place you will receive further information in due course about the event and anything extra to bring. There is limited parking at the venue, and we wish to encourage car-sharing as much as possible. The venue is not served well by public transport, but it might be possible to co-ordinate lifts from nearby transport hubs.   • Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and the event may sell out prior to the deadline.
  • If you chose to pay by BACs then payment must be made within 2 weeks.
  • The full fee does not include travel to and from the event. Girlguiding Scotland are happy to cover up to £35/per Girlguiding Scotland member towards the cost of travel to attend the training. Please request an expense claim form on booking and complete when you have attended the event.
